At least 6 people die during Nascar events
At a recent hearing held on the proposal of the Staten Island Nascar track, it seems that at least six people, on average, die during Nascar events. This finding was revealed during the hearing with Staten Island Community Boards on the 7 th September 2006 . It seems that the community will do everything and leave no stone unturned in their bid to appose the Staten Island Nascar Track. With such new findings, International Speedway Corporation, the company trying to push the Nascar Track in New York through, will have much work to do before their dream of having a Nascar Track built on Staten Island becomes reality.
The various causes of death during race weekends were due to heart attacks, fires, injuries and auto accidents related to the race weekend.
Are these facts or they just bits and pieces of the big picture?
The finding was based on an interview conducted with the Fire Brass by the FDNY committee. FDNY ran interviewed many fire department personnel on the number of deaths during race weekends in and about Nascar Tracks owned by International Speedway Corporation.
Many who heard the news found it quite unbelievable. It's no wonder because news will only report on the winnings, the loses, and the spectacular atmosphere surrounding the race but not always on the negative things that happened because of the raceā¦unless it concerns one of the racers and cars, of course.
As to how International Speedway Corporation handling the report, Michael Printup (ISC's Nascar track manager for Staten Island), they are not worried at all because there needs to be more in-depth research to be done on the deaths reported. True enough, if the deaths occur were due to natural causes or if the fatalities were due to the carelessness of the persons concerned, the blame should not and could not be placed on ISC's shoulders.
So, before the statistics could be confirmed or cause a dent in ISC's plans to build the Staten Island Nascar Track, the plans, as far as ISC is concerned, remains firmly in place. They are truly unperturbed by the finding.
