The light rail may be the most practical solution for the Staten Island Nascar Track plan
With talk about traffic congestion being the primary concern if and when the Staten Island Nascar Track is built and completed, politicians and residents are exploring possible ways of easing the potential traffic problems during race days. One of the most efficient mode of transport that could help the Staten Island Nascar Track is to build a light rail system in the island.
A light rail system can easy the traffic during race days because the light rail can travel up to 60 miles per hour. The light rail system is also not affected by other systems and works entirely on its own. Since the light rail is easier and cheaper to build than a heavy rail without the need for extensive change in the original infrastructure like tunnels and such, the idea of building a light rail system seems really appealing right now to the owners of the land where the Staten Island Nascar Track is going to be built on.
“It's funny that the state is considering building a light rail system now because it must have dawned on them before this that there is absolutely no rail linking New Jersey to Staten Island”, says a resident of Staten Island. “If anything were to happen in Staten Island , we'd have no means of evacuating the population of the island. Imagine that – so, yes, in a way, we can say thanks to International Speedway Corporation for thinking up the Staten Island Nascar Track”. Currently, Staten Island has only 4 bridge crossings and it is not at all adequate.
At the end of the day, we conclude that there is a desperate need for a system to be built even before the Nascar Track was suggested. Staten Island needs the Hudson Bergen Light Rail built over the Bayonne Bridge with the Staten Island Island Mall as a turnaround point.
With the light rail system in place, certainly, the Staten Island Nascar Track would be all the more appealing, wouldn't it?
