Staten Island NASCAR track plans hits dirt

Among the many other issues that racetrack mogul, International Speedway Corporation, has to deal with regards to the Staten Island NASCAR track that they're trying to build on an unused piece of wetland in Staten Island , here's another one to make the deal even dirtier. Their license to cart soil into the proposed NASCAR track site has been revoked. International Speedway Corporation needs the license to cart soil into the site to grade the site for future construction of the NASCAR track.

Accordingly, the soil being brought into the site does not meet with government's specific requirements. They did not reveal the specific problem with the soil, however. After having their permits to bring the soil into the area, the Sanitation Department followed suit. All that was said during this time is that sample of the soil has been taken and it seems inconsistent with the Fill Material Operations permit requirements. Therefore, the permits were revoked.

Could this have been the government's fault and not International Speedway Corp's? Perhaps, some say. The materials should have been examined before the permits were issued. By permitting and then revoking, they are effectively putting the companies involved in a pit hole with no way out.

But ISC's John Graham issued a very short and unclear statement about this problem recently – he said that the test procedure is in place and that they continually monitor and test their site fill material. Apparently, there's a problem somewhere along the line and something's not working. They have taken immediate remedial steps to rectify the problem.

Considering the fact that there are many politicians sitting by the sideline, waiting patiently but eagerly for the chance to hammer in the final nail on this coffin, ISC's got lots of work to do. Councilman James Oddo is one of those waiting with hammer in hand. He issued a statement that said that dirty fill is an extremely serious issue and says that there are better plans for the site.

As it is now, we might be inclined to think that the fate of the Staten Island Nascar Track is truly hanging in balance right now? Will it fall or will it soar?
